Always thought the Mango trees I see everywhere would be a wonderful opportunity for my Philippines Jungle Mellifera but was not to be.
Super surprised. When my Mango tree burst into flower it was possible to smell its attractive sweet aroma from at least 100 meters away. My Mellifera hives are just 15 meters from the tree. I expected them to be in heaven. The flowers drip nectar all over my roof and car. Mellifluous, well at least you would think so?
Not one Apis bee visited the Mango tree. No native Cerana or Dorsita either. Night and day it was covered in blue bottle flies and some other odd looking bugs but mostly flies. Flies and more flies. Why?
Just read that Mango pollination in Africa, where Mellifera scutellata is native, is also preformed by flies there too.
